MY TOP 5 DISNEY MOVIES

Hi hi. For the past few nights now I’ve pushed YouTube to the side and have instead been watching some of my favourite Disney films to help me nod off to sleep. I’ve always had a bit of a thing about Disney movies – I held onto my VHS copies forย ages – I actually think that the majority of them are still in the loft… I’m also a recovering hoarder, incase you didn’t know. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyway, I thought it might be fun to share my all time favourites with you guys!

Lion King- 1994

Duhhh! I think Lion King is the first one that sprung to mind because of my recent trip to the theatre! You can read all about the magical-ness here if you wish. I once read that Lion King was loosely based on Hamlet? Don’t quote me on that though. “Tricked into thinking that he caused the death of his father, a lion cub flees and abandons his destiny as the future king.” It doesn’t matter how old you are, you will cry every time Mufasa dies. EVERY DAMN TIME.

Lady & The tramp – 1955

I can’t believe Lady & the Tramp was released in 1955?! This is one of the first films I remember being really into – I had a little ‘Lady’ beanie that I took everywhere, I think she’s in the loft along with my Aristocat teddies! We even had two cats called Lady and Tramp – I didn’t care that they weren’t the same species at the time. “The romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog and a streetwise downtown Mutt.” I remember it being quite a scary film in places, but I have no clue why!

Up – 2009

All the feels. I feel Up doesn’t get the respect and appreciation it deserves. The beginning’s pretty sad but it does get better as the movie progresses…I still think there’s a bit of a sad undertone though. Either way it’s an amazing film and I definitely recommmend it if you haven’t seen it already. “To avoid being taken away to a nursing home, an old widower tries to fly his home to Paradise Falls, South America, along with a boy scout who accidentally lifted off with him.” It really is a lovely film – just get yourself a Kleenex or 12 for the first 15 minutes.

Pocahontas – 1995

I remember getting really upset over Pocahontas at one point because A) I wasn’t Native American with majestic hair and B) she never ended up with John Smith. “An English soldier and the daughter of an Algonquin chief share a romance when English colonists invade seventeenth-century Virginia.” All I wanted was to paint with all the colours of the wind and have a friendly Racoon buddy but no, I had to stay as a boring white English girl. You can read my post about the real Pocahontas here – it’s pretty interesting!

The Little Mermaid – 1989

I’m so shocked to find out how long ago these movies were actually released – this was four years before I was born! Like with Lady & the Tramp; I was pretty obsessed with this movie for a time. “A mermaid princess makes a Faustian bargain with an unscrupulous sea-witch in order to meet a human prince on land.” When I learnt to swim all I ever wanted to do was be in the swimming pool, so naturally I wanted to be a mermaid. I even had bright red hair for 2 years when I got older… I said it was because I loved Hayley Williams’ hair when she went red, but we all know that’s not true ๐Ÿ˜‰

This was actually quite a hard post to write – I feel I’ve betrayed all the other Disney films! One thing that’s really been bugging me lately is that Disney have started to change all the older princess and characters to fit in with the new ones! I understand that they’ve got better creative tools now but I think they’re changing them too much. Have you see what they’ve done to Pocahontas?!

I don’t know who that is, but it’s not our Poca. Her face looks really different! I know they’re trying to make her looks less ‘drawn’ but that’s going a bit far…
Bet you’re surprised Bambi’s not on that list aren’t ya – whilst I like Bambi, it’s so sad I never watch it!

Leave me a comment and let me know what your favourite Disney film is!
